Session 2022

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, the Maryland General Assembly convened for this year’s regular session.  Senator Bailey looks forward to providing available, approachable, and committed leadership for St. Mary’s and Calvert Counties and working to advance our priorities in the Senate again this year.  As a result of the General Assembly’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Senate has once again implemented special procedures for the beginning of session.  Here are a few helpful tips on how to contact the Senator’s office and follow legislation this session.

Contacting Our Office:

As in previous years, the best way to contact Senator Bailey’s office continues to be by e-mail at jack.bailey@senate.state.md.us.  This will ensure the most efficient review of and response to your question, comment, issue, or scheduling request.

Meeting Requests:

All meetings with Senator Bailey and his staff during the legislative session will be held by appointment only, and for the time being will continue to be conducted virtually.  Meeting requests should be submitted to the Senator’s office by e-mail at jack.bailey@senate.state.md.us.  Please be aware that requests for meetings during the session will often be greater than available time, particularly as the session goes on.  We ask for your patience in scheduling meetings as there is still a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the Senate’s schedule, particularly early in the legislative session.  Due to the volume of requests, we recommend that, if possible, you first send written information on the topic that you want to meet about to the Senator’s office at the above email address.

Testimony on Legislation:

The Senate has once again implemented modified procedures for testifying on bills, which can be found at https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/Pubs-Current/2022%20Senate%20Information%20and%20Protocols.pdf.  Please note that hearings held on or before February 11 and on or after February 14 will have different procedures to follow for submitting testimony.  Additionally, each Committee will also have its own rules and procedures to follow when testifying on a bill.  Please see the Committee’s page on the Maryland General Assembly website to read and review their Witness Guidelines.

The Maryland General Assembly’s website (mgaleg.maryland.gov) will be updated often to reflect any revised protocols.  As always, if you have any questions, please contact our office.
